ABOUT THE INSTITUTION
The Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College, was started in the year 1987 to impart technical education to the rural population in this part of our country. It is located about 15 Kms from Salem on NH-47 Salem-Coimbatore highway. College functioned under the Universities such as Periyar University & Anna University till Year 2004. Affiliated to VMRF Deemed University in the year 2004 which flourished as Vinayaka Missions University in the Year 2006.Now this college has completed 25 glorious years in technical education. The college was started with various discipline and departments to cater the students with the dedicated teaching professionals. Students are provided with common room for each and every department.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2005 with the following objectives:
- To develop academic excellence in the field of Bio-Technology to cater the need of modern Industry
- Providing hands on experience in various laboratory techniques and sophisticated analytical instruments and offering placement training.
- Training & re-training the young engineering students in the areas of applied biotechnology to become a world class Bio-technologist.
- Motivating students to involve in research activities during the course of study
The applications of Biotechnology are so broad, and the advantages so compelling, that virtually every industry is using this technology. Developments are underway in areas as diverse as pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, textiles, aquaculture, forestry, chemicals, household products, environmental cleanup, food processing and forensics.
The department offers B.Tech, M.Tech (FT/PT), Ph.D.,(FT/PT).Dedicated faculty are from varied fields of Biotechnology ,facilitating meticulous training of students towards project and placement apart from routine curriculum.
ABOUT THE Prof.Dr.A.P.J.ABDUL KALAM BUSINESS INCUBATOR
Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College is the first Institution in this region selected by Ministry of MSME, Government of India, New Delhi to recognize as Business Incubator namely Prof.Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Business Incubator under the scheme Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of SMEs through Incubators and sanctioned financial grant to the tune of 43 Lakhs in the year 2015-16. The Institution has been identified by Ministry of Commerce and Industries, GoI New Delhi as an Incubator for providing recommendation letter to start-ups for availing funding benefits from various Government agencies. Prof.Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Business Incubator has also submitted 11 proposals for financial support from MSME–Centre of Excellence, IISc, Bangalore. The Director of the Centre is very much appreciated the innovative ideas and immediately selected 2 ideas and sanctioned financial support to the tune of 6 Lakhs and 5 proposals are selected for financial support and further informed that the remaining 4 proposals would be considered for financial support shortly.
The Institution is Collaborating with Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysore for the past 5 years in the area of Food Processing Techniques. In this connection, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has recently developed and fabricated a High Frequency Induction Heater for cooking foods using pressure cookers having a high capacity of 60 litres. In addition we are currently developing Cryogenic grinding machine, Chapathi Oil spraying and heating system, Solar Induction heater for food processing industries.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Agriculture is an important sector that acts as major contributor to the Indian economy. Agricultural Engineering is developed to make advances in sustainable agriculture which is totally eco-friendly. Food security and crop production will become stronger if Agricultural Engineering is developed appropriately. Food processing industry especially agro horticulture based research is identified as a thrust area of development. Fruits and vegetables such as banana, jack fruits, orange, lemon, potato etc have good marketing scope if harvested, processed and packaged. Food processing also includes the development of protein - rich foods and food additives. There was an increasing interest in applying modern food technology to their food and nutrition problems. The main nutritional implications were in particular in reducing food wastage and in preventing losses in nutritive value and in conserving or enhancing palatability.
This conference will be a premium platform to share and extend their knowledge about the problems, current trends, and advancements in agro food processing technologies. It comprises of keynote and speakers on latest cutting edge research and innovative approaches in agriculture and food science.
